Just printed at the weekend there were our prints for Admiral Fallow’s current tour supporting their new album ‘Tree Bursts in Snow’ – out 21st/22nd May. If the current single ‘The Paper Trench‘ is anything to go by, the album should be one to really look forward to.

These are printed four colours – metallic gold, black, brown & transparent black on GF Smith’s Tan 270gsm Colorplan, with the edition totalling 92 prints to cover all the dates.

Any prints left over will be made available either here on the Handcooked site or through the band’s own website – and a small amount will be on-show/sale at the Screenadelica show in Liverpool.

The full music programme has been announced for Screenadelica – along with a couple more poster artists added into an already fantastic looking line-up – Mara Piccione and John Howard (Monkey Ink). The exhibition will be open each day from 3pm with music from 7pm – and entry’s free.

The never-ending website re-build/re-design is now finally nearing an end… all prints are now to be found in the ‘posters’ section under the band/artist/event name, rather than in the ‘Shop” section, or listed individually in the ‘Posters’ section.

There’s still a few of the older prints to be added (some of which will be back on sale), so the Crystal Antlers, Idlewild Tuts & Post Electric Blues tour prints, Frightened Rabbit’s “Quietly Now” & 2009 Winter Tour prints, along with the We Were Promised Jetpacks’ debut album launch prints will all be making a re-appearance back on the Handcooked website.

Handcooked will be exhibiting – and attending – this year’s Screenadelica Gig Poster Exhibition – being held as part of Liverpool Sound City 2012, from May 17th – 19th.

The exhibition takes place at the Academy of Arts – and along-side a pretty stunning line up of poster artists confirmed for this – the exhibition will co-run along with it’s own music programme in the venue… to be announced soon.

Just completed in time for their Aberdeen date, a run of 75 prints were done for The Birthday Suit’s UK tour. There’s 50 prints on-sale at the gigs (all supplied tubed), with some being made available here on the Handcooked site once the tours over.

These are 15″ x 24″, and printed 3 colours (black and a colour blend of green & blue) and features the bands’ album cover artwork.

A late posting with these, but Handcooked screen-printed two prints for The Twilight Sad – a tour print for their just-completed UK tour and a print for their new album pre-order bundle offer.

Design duties on the album print were from FatCat’s Dave Thomas (a double-printed metallic silver ink on a black stock) and the tour print design handled by a US-based designer (the red & black one).

Both A2 sized – and printed on 270gsm GF Smith Colorplan stock.

Just completed are our prints for Roddy Woomble’s current tour. There’s a strictly limited edition printed silver & black on a red coloured board, and a main edition printed black & white on a light blue board – with the design also being used on the tour t-shirts. The prints will be available over the dates, and any left over will be made available on this site.

A selection of our gig poster work is on display at the West Yorkshire Print Workshop Gallery as part of their ‘This is a Gig Poster’ exhibition.

The show runs from now up ‘til 20th October and showcases the work of Nick Rhodes, Telegramme Studio, We Three Club, Twoducksdisco, Army of Cats and Ferres Design. Prints will also be on-sale from the venue.

Diagram‘s debut EP has just been released on the the wonderful Full Time Hobby record label – with a very strictly limited edition (200) being released on  12″ vinyl and an individually numbered, screen-printed sleeve also available – which is something pretty unique & special.

Our prints for Okkervil River’s show at Heaven, London 16th May are now on-sale. These are 14″ x 23.5″ and printed 3 colours… with the design on this handled by Staci Rowlison. More details on these posted very soon.

Last month got off to a fantastic start with news of a nomination for Handcooked/Douglas Walker in the category of ‘Poster Artist of the Year’ in the inaugral Scottish New Music Awards 2011 – an exciting new event being held later this year at the Classic Grand in Glasgow, created to recognise individuals’ contributions towards the vitality of the Scottish music industry.

More info/links for all the music industry nominees (inc. those in the poster category) can be found here, and the award winners will be decided upon through online voting – which is now open, and closes 1st August.

An (appreciated) vote for Handcooked can be made here, please note: the nomination is under Douglas Walker – and not Handcooked.

There are 27 nomination categories, and a vote in every category IS required – although there’s no log-in procedure for voting and it WILL only take a couple of minutes to complete. Do take your time if you can though, as there’s quite a few worthwhile nominees in each category worth your support/vote/more recognition within the industry – and these new awards sound like a great way to help achieve that.

A busy year so far printing/designing with Handcooked and keeping up with Baseline’s design work has meant the Handcooked site’s been running behind with keeping up to date, but our Bright Eyes print for the band’s Glasgow show (shown above) has now been added to our shop along with the Roddy Woomble tour print.

Site updates will follow on soon with details of our commemorative prints for Roddy Hart’s “Forever Young” Bob Dylan Tribute Night at Glasgow’s Royal Concert Hall, along with some pix of our first foray into screen-printing limited edition 12″ single sleeve covers – which is an area we’d love to be working in – especially after seeing ‘proper’ 12″ x 12″ music artwork being made again…

Just completed are the prints for Roddy Woomble’s current tour – which will be available through our shop after the Liverpool date on Feb 6th.

The design’s also been adapted for t-shirts and a tote bag which are on-sale at the gigs – along with a very small quantity of single colour prints of the above on either red or light blue board.

Our Idlewild tour prints for the band’s 100 Broken Windows 10th Anniversary Tour have now been made available. The first edition of prints completely sold out on tour, so a 2nd edition was requested by the band to be printed up to cover all the dates.

(The second edition isn’t printed on the 270gsm GF Smith Colourplan paper stock we usually use – just to differentiate editions – and also due to timescales/bad weather interfering with deliveries of paper/timescales.)

Completed in the middle of heavy snow falls and sub zero temperatures were our latest prints for Idlewild – who are touring to support the re-release of their 100 Broken Windows album on it’s tenth anniversary. Both the design and the final print itself are possibly Handcooked best efforts yet – despite the weather’s best efforts to make this as difficult as possible to produce!

The print is 11.5 inches x 23.5 inches, and is printed 4 colours, with a fifth colour achieved through overprinting inks.

The print’s sold really well on tour, so to cover all the tour dates at the end of December there’ll be a 2nd Edition of these printed up for those and to cover any on-line sales.

These prints will be available on-line early in the New Year.

Thanks to everyone who made our first visit to Flatstock Europe such a great experience. Now that all our poster stock is now in the one place with prints being out on tour, at Flatstock or at galleries, our shop will be updated very soon – and there’s a few prints going to be available that haven’t been in stock for ages. Reeperbahn Festival, Sept 2010

Each poster artist attending a Flatstock event is invited to design & print their own poster for the event. So here’s ours (christened the “buoy-kini”!) – a five colour 10″ x 24″ screenprint on 270gsm white stock, with only 42 prints available in the edition.

Design-wise, this was generally themed on Hamburg – combining images reflecting it’s sea-faring history as one of Europe’s largest ports and it’s infamous red light district, The Reeperbahn.

Handcooked will be participating in this year’s FLATSTOCK EUROPE 5 (FLATSTOCK 28) poster show – part of the 3 day Reeperbahn Music Festival held in Hamburg, Germany from Sept 23rd – 25th.

Flatstock Europe is the biggest poster show held outside of the USA, and is presented by the American Poster Institute (API). While FLATSTOCK is a series of exhibitions mainly held across the US at various music events (SXSW, Bumbershoot, etc), Flatstock Europe features a wide range of work from gig poster artists from across the USA, UK, Canada, Germany and the rest of Europe.

The API is a non-profit corporation dedicated to serving poster artists and promoting this art form to a wider audience, and since 2002 FLATSTOCK has presented the general public with an ongoing series of opportunities to see gig poster art in person and also provides an opportunity to meet the artists behind it all.

Each participant is invited to produce their own Flatstock poster for selling at the show (outwith the official poster shown above). For more info, take a look at, The Flatstock Blog, The American Poster Institute and gigposters.com. The last couple of months have been taken up with getting a new workshop built in the garden at home, then dismantling, moving all the print equipment up out of a cramped garage, re-assembling and somehow fitting it all into a custom built workspace. With the move in almost complete, site-wide updates will be appearing here very soon.

This year, we’ve produced two separate screen-prints for the Scottish Arts Council’s Showcasing Scotland gigs at SXSW. The Arts Council funds and supports some of the best Scottish acts to travel across to the States and play at two showcase gigs at the prestigious music festival in Austin, TEXAS – with one during the day and the other an evening gig.

Design-wise we went for a cross-Atlantic travel/Scottish theme with colourways to reflect the day and night time gigs. Each print has a colour blend for the run with the sky and band-names, and we experimented with double hit colours for both the violet and the black areas. And printing duties on the Latitude print were ably assisted by Stuart Thomas from the Scottish Arts Council.
